RoSPA is proud to organise this Specialist Award as part of the prestigious Occupational Health and Safety Awards scheme. Sponsored by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company of Bahrain, the RoSPA International Dilmun Environmental Award recognises excellence in environmental as well as health and safety management.
The way any organisation manages environmental issues is a crucial measure of its standards of corporate social responsibility, competitiveness and vision. As more and more organisations accept the link between these, it is increasingly clear that, like health and safety, environmental concerns must be managed strategically and integrated at the very heart of management systems and decision-making.
RoSPA and GPIC believe that businesses have a fundamental role to play in enhancing and protecting the environment and that by providing recognition for an environmental ‘champion’ others can be encouraged to adopt the same philosophy.

The Winner
The winner will be presented with and hold the prestigious RoSPA International Dilmun Environmental Award for one year. They will also receive a commemorative plaque to keep and display.
The Trophy will be presented at one of the 2008 RoSPA Awards Ceremonies, held in May at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel or at the RoSPA Scotland Awards held in Glasgow in September.
A glittering banquet and ball allows the winner to celebrate and publicise their achievement and to reward all those involved in the organisation’s success.
The Trophy
The trophy design is based on a ‘Dilmun Seal’ representing the journey of ancient kings and nobles of the Middle East to Dilmun (The old name for the Kingdom of Bahrain - 'the land of eternity'), which they believed was heavenly with its abundant spring water, palm trees and oases. The sailing symbolism also aptly represents the fine balance needed in working together towards excellence in health, safety and environmental management.
The Artist
Born in Bahrain, Rashed Al Oraifi is known in the Arabian Gulf region as the ‘Dilmun Artist’. His pioneering work has established Bahrain’s folklore heritage as an art form and has been exhibited locally, regionally and internationally.
