Managing Workplace Transport
A matter of life and death
Wednesday 14th May 2008, NEC, Birmingham
Workplace transport is the second largest cause of notifiable work-related accidents. Each year approximately 70 people are killed and 2,000 seriously injured in accidents involving vehicles in and around workplaces. In addition there are around 5,000 injuries as a result of such accidents that cause people to be off work for more than three days.
The HSE’s Workplace Transport Safety 'Route Map' is a new tool setting out cross-cutting guidance to assist in the management of the various risks posed by workplace transport.
These risks are currently covered by several sets of regulations and many employers and duty holders find this confusing. Various guidance publications have also been developed, some generic, some for specific procedures in certain sectors, but there is no clear over-arching guidance which links these together and connects them with key topics such as assessing driver fitness and skills and ensuring effective site management.
This conference, which will include expert speakers from a wide industry spectrum, will offer delegates briefing on: current accident, injury and enforcement trends; key standards required by HSE; effective solutions to workplace transport safety issues; and signposting to sources of guidance and help. It will also offer an opportunity to network informally with other delegates and learn about how others are dealing with this critical aspect of workplace safety.
