How do I get the information I need?
To obtain information, you will need to formulate a query.
How do I formulate a query?
Formulating a query involves making selections from the lists provided. You do not need to select from all categories, just those relevant to your query.
What is the easiest way to do this?
Deciding exactly what it is you are looking for before you start your query will definitely help, as it will enable you to select from each category quickly and effectively. Below are some examples to help you.
YOU MAY FIND IT HELPFUL TO USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS TO CARRY OUT THESE SAMPLE QUERYS BEFORE YOU PROCEED WITH YOUR OWN.

Why can I only select one category at a time?
This is so that the database will provide you with accurate results. However, It is not the case with every category as you can make more than one choice when selecting from the AGE and GENDER categories. The OBJECT OR PRODUCT INVOLVED category also allows you to make unlimited selections, but only within one sub-category. The following sample query illustrates this:
Sample Query 3
How many females have accidents involving a food mixer and a food processor?
- Click on SELECT MALE OR FEMALE in the VICTIM'S GENDER category
- Select FEMALE
- Click the PROCEED button to return to the summary screen
- Click on SELECT INDIVIDUAL OBJECT in the OBJECT OR PRODUCT INVOLVED box
- Browsing the lists, you will find that both food mixer and food processor are listed under the sub-category COOKING EATING CLEANING
Click on food mixer
- Click on food processor
- Press PROCEED to return to the summary screen
- Click the COUNT button to find the number of accident victims in your query
Tick the box by the side of each selection . . It was possible to undertake this query easily as both food processor and food whisk are listed under the same COOKING EATING CLEANING sub-category. Should the object or product involved be listed under different categories - for example, one under COOKING CLEANING EATING and the other under LEISURE EQUIPMENT, for example, you would need to undertake 2 queries in order to come up with the correct results.
Is browsing important when using the web database?
Browsing is extremely important. In fact it is the key to creating queries and obtaining the results you want quickly and accurately. Before you undertake your own first query, it will certainly prove useful to browse the database and familiarise yourself with its contents.
