Choosing and Using Home Safety Equipment
 There are many schemes and organisations providing home safety equipment to families and older people. For these schemes to be effective in reducing accidental injury, it is essential that the correct type of equipment is provided. Changing the environment is most effective when we also change behaviour. For example, a poison cabinet only reduces accidents if we use it.This one day course is accredited to City & Guilds and there is an optional assessment, at no extra cost, for those delegates seeking accreditation from a nationally recognised awarding body. |
Who should attend: All new and established providers of home safety equipment. Ideally, delegates will previously have attended our one-day course on Child Safety or Older People Safety in the Home. As with our other courses, we welcome delegates from the voluntary, community and statutory sectors. What will they learn: This course focuses on the effective types and placement of home safety equipment as well as the necessary behavioural changes needed to reduce accidental injury. From stair gates to touch lamps, delegates will gain a greater understanding of which equipment is most effective in the reduction of accidental injury. Course content includes: ● Types of safety equipment effective in reducing accidental injury ● The importance of correct placement ● How certain equipment can increase the risk of injury ● Behavioural changes |
