21/12/98 : WINTER WARNING TO WALKERS

RoSPA is urging the public not to become complacent about safety this winter if temperatures plummet and canals, ponds and lakes start to freeze over. Despite repeated warnings, people continue to dice with death by skating or running on frozen water. Even strong swimmers will swiftly succumb to freezing water as victims of ice accidents become helpless with the cold within seconds. 03/12/98 : TEN CHILDREN A YEAR KILLED IN WORK PLACES

Around ten children are killed after wandering into construction sites and onto the railways or farms, every year, and half a million others are injured on work sites, The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents revealed today. Creating an accident-free culture for company car and van drivers is just one of the topics up for discussion at a series of one-day conferences organised by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. Managing Occupational Road Risk (MORR) is one of RoSPA’s key issues for action and a major campaign was launched this year in an attempt to reduce the number of accidents involving motorists travelling for work. Companies are failing to investigate accidents at work, and are not learning from their safety mistakes, The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents warned today. All too often the tendency is to find someone to blame for the accident rather than search for the underlying cause, RoSPA says.
