SCOTTISH COMPANIES CELEBRATE STAYING SAFE WITH RoSPA
More than 120 businesses and organisations will be celebrating their outstanding safety achievements next week when they are honoured by The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
The RoSPA Scotland Occupational Health and Safety Awards, sponsored by RMC, will be presented at the Glasgow Thistle Hotel on September 6. Dr John Hooper, RoSPA Chief Executive, will be making the presentations.
The winner of this year’s RoSPA Scotland award will be announced on the night. This award recognises the highest standard of occupational health and safety performance by an organisation based and operating in Scotland.
Aberdeen-based TR Oil Services Ltd is the winner of the Chemical Industry Sector award. Sector awards are presented to companies showing the best health and safety performance in a particular industry. TR Oil Services, is one of three Scottish companies to win a sector award in RoSPA’s international awards scheme. Scottish Aggregates Ltd, Stirling, won the mining and quarrying sector and CCG (UK) Ltd, are winners of the hotel and catering industry.
Motherwell College, Motherwell, IBM United Kingdom Ltd, Greenock, and TBL Organisation Development and Safety Services, Perthshire, will all receive highly commended sector awards. This accolade is the equivalent of runner-up within their industry.
Other awards to be presented include: Four Presidents Awards, 22 gold medals, 63 gold and 11 silver.
Roger Bibbings, RoSPA Occupational Safety Adviser, said: “The RoSPA awards have yet again demonstrated that many businesses and organisations put workplace health and safety at the top of their agenda.
“Last year in Scotland, 36 people died in work-related accidents and over 3,000 suffered a major injury. If more businesses and organisations followed the lead of RoSPA award winners and made health and safety a top priority, we would see a dramatic fall in the number of accidents.”
The awards run alongside RoSPA Scotland 2001 Safety and Health at Work Congress, A New Vision for Scottish Health and Safety.
