CAMPAIGNER HONOURED FOR SERVICE TO HEALTH AND SAFETY
A Londoner, who has campaigned to improve health and safety in the workplace for nearly 20 years, has been honoured by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents.
Paul Reeve, of Ealing, has been presented with a Distinguished Service Award by RoSPA for his outstanding contribution to occupational safety.
A Chartered Chemist and a Fellow of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, Paul began his career in the industry when he joined Safety Practitioner as editor in 1983.
In 1990, he moved to the Engineering Employers Federation as head of safety and played a major role in expanding EEF initiatives. This included focusing on the role of health and safety in improving competitiveness and its integration with environmental management.
Paul has also had a considerable influence on health and safety policy and regulation, both in the UK and in Europe.
Other initiatives have included his role as chair of the IOSH Risk Management Strategy working party and the development of authoritative guidance on health and safety management systems.
Since leaving the EEF in 2001, Paul has continued to play an influential health and safety role in the chemical and the electrical contracting sectors. He now works for the Electrical Contractors Association as health and safety adviser.
He was presented with his award this month by RoSPA President, Lord Faulkner of Worcester, at a ceremony at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel, sponsored by RMC Group plc.
