RoSPA SEEKS THE SAFEST FLEET

The hunt is on to find the safest road fleet in the UK.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents wants companies and organisations that are proud of the safety performance of their drivers to bid for a new Managing Occupational Road Risk Trophy.

The RoSPA MORR Award is open to all types of road fleet, including company cars, trucks, vans and motorcycles.

Charles Davis, RoSPA Head of Driver and Fleet Solutions, said: “We want to find the best example of managing occupational road risk so that the winner can help others to understand what can be achieved.

“Employers can no longer ignore occupational road risk. Entering for this award is an ideal way for them to prove to their own workforce and the outside world how seriously they take fleet safety issues. They have a responsibility to keep their employees and other road users safe.

“We know there are some wonderful examples of fleet safety management. It is time they were given public recognition so that they can encourage other organisations to follow their lead.”

As well as choosing the main winner, the judging panel will be able to give commendations for other outstanding entries.

Entrants will be asked to provide evidence of: a road risk management policy, staff organisation, standard setting, monitoring and measuring performance (including accident records) and review and audit procedures.

They will need to demonstrate a consistently good or continuously improving road risk management performance over a given period.

The award will be presented at RoSPA’s Occupational Health and Safety Awards ceremony at the NEC, Birmingham, in May.

The closing date for entries is March 4, 2003. For more information and entry forms, contact Charles Davis on 0121 248 2149.

For those wanting to learn more about managing occupational road risk, RoSPA is staging a seminar, sponsored by BT, at the Beardmore Conference Hotel, Clydebank, on January 22, 2003. For details, ring 0121 248 2120 or go to www.rospa.com/morr
