13/05/03 : RoSPA ON AN AWARDS HIGH

A record 1,100 businesses and organisations are to be honoured at RoSPA’s Occupational Health and Safety Awards next week. Most of the awards, sponsored by RMC Group plc, will be presented at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel at the NEC on May 21 and 22. Full Story»


02/05/03 : GOVERNMENT’S SCRAPPING OF ACCIDENT DATA APPALS RoSPA

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said today that it was “appalled” by the Government’s decision to axe the major source of data used in the fight against home and leisure accidents. The Department of Trade and Industry is to scrap the Home and Leisure Accident Surveillance System, which has been in existence since 1976. The system, often referred to as HASS and LASS, gives details of the types of accidents which people have and the products and equipment that contribute to them. Full Story»


17/04/03 : “BELT UP FOR EASTER” – COACH TRAVELLERS URGED

Easter coach travellers are being urged to put on their seatbelts to keep safe and to prepare for new European laws. Legislation is being introduced in Europe to make it compulsory to wear seatbelts on coaches, but at present most passengers don’t buckle up. Full Story»


16/04/03 : DIY AND DIGGING DANGERS OF AN EASTER BREAK

DIY and gardening accidents are expected to soar during the Easter break as people spruce up their homes following the wear and tear of winter. Easter is the first long weekend for thousands of families since the Christmas holiday, and is traditionally the time for repair jobs, decorating and clearing up the lawn and flower beds. 18/03/03 : ROADSHOW HIGHLIGHTS NORTHERN IRELAND ACCIDENT THREAT

Every year over 70,000 people living in Northern Ireland attend hospital because of an accident in their home, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said today. Nearly 10,000 of them will be admitted because of their injury and 100 will die. To raise public awareness, a roadshow organised by RoSPA and co-ordinated by local Environmental Health Departments, will be touring the province in April in a bid to cut these deaths and injuries. 05/03/03 : CAMPAIGN TO KEEP PETS SAFE IN CARS

A new campaign to stop “man’s best friend” from becoming a killer in your car is being launched by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents. Thousands of leaflets on carrying pets safely in vehicles have been produced by RoSPA in time for Crufts dog show tomorrow (March 6). Full Story»


05/03/03 : BE A WINNER WITH RoSPA AT SAFETY & HEALTH EXPO 2003

Visitors to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents stand at Safety & Health Expo 2003 will have a chance to win a prize worth more than £6,500. 27/02/03 : FOCUS ON DRIVERS MOST AT DANGER ON THE ROADS

The three groups of motorists most at risk on UK roads - the young, the old and company car and van drivers - will be put under the spotlight by RoSPA next week. 17/02/03 : CALL FOR REFORM OF OCCUPATIONAL INSURANCE

Three leading safety organisations are calling on the Government to make radical reforms in the way in which insurers provide cover to compensate employees injured or made ill at work. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and the British Safety Council have joined forces to press for stronger links between Employers’ Liability Compulsory Insurance (ELCI) and health and safety management.
