SPEAK UP FOR HOME SAFETY
RoSPA is offering a platform for people with proven ideas for stopping home accidents to spread the word about their success.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is seeking speakers for its national home safety congress in November entitled Reducing Home Accidents – What Works?.
Subjects could be education projects, engineering solutions, changes in environment, enforcement measures or even empowerment schemes where people have made the decisions that have helped them stay safe. The most successful schemes are likely to involve a combination of some of these initiatives.
The conference will be held at the Imperial Hotel, Torquay, on November 10 and 11.
Its aim is to highlight successful home safety projects, discuss ways of measuring success, examine partnership working, look at good practice and explore funding opportunities.
Sarah Colles, RoSPA Head of Home Safety, said: “We want home safety practitioners and other professionals in this field to share their successes so that we can prevent injuries in the future. With more than 2.8 million people injured in the home each year by accidents and another 4,000 killed we still have a long way to go.
“RoSPA’s home safety congress is the only event of its type in the UK as it deals with all age groups and all types of home. Speakers will have an audience that will be eager to learn from their success. Sharing good ideas today can save lives tomorrow.”
Abstracts of about 500 words should be sent to Sarah Colles, Home Safety Adviser, RoSPA, 353 Bristol Road, Birmingham B5 7ST by May 1, 2003.
