29/03/04 : BID TO PROTECT YOUNGSTERS AND KEEP BEACHES SAFER

Two new initiatives to prevent drownings in the UK were launched by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents today. The one concentrates on youngsters who put themselves at risk near water, the other aims to protect people enjoying themselves around Britain’s coastline. Full Story»


25/03/04 : RoSPA BACKS NEW PASSPORT TO SAFETY

RoSPA today announced its support for a new safety passport scheme for staff employed by organisations which are members of SAFed (the Safety Assessment Federation). The initiative launched at RoSPA’s Birmingham headquarters involves a partnership between the Society and SAFed, which represents companies that have a special role in inspecting safety-sensitive plant and installations. 25/03/04 : FORUM PROPOSED TO CUT UK DROWNINGS

Plans for new structures to mastermind water safety in the UK will be discussed next week. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is holding its national water safety congress in Brighton, and hopes to bring together all organisations with an interest in reducing drownings and injuries, both inland and at sea. 18/03/04 : MINISTER SEEKS BETTER HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK

Safety Minister Des Browne will discuss the UK’s strategy for improving health and safety at work when he opens a national conference organised by the Royal Society for the Prevention on Accidents in May. 09/03/04 : TOP HONOURS FOR ROAD SAFETY EXPERTS

Two people who have done outstanding work for road safety have been given the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ top award for individuals. Graham Feest, secretary of the Association of Industrial Road Safety Officers (AIRSO), and Professor James Thomson of Strathclyde University were presented with RoSPA’s Distinguished Service Award for road safety at the Society’s National Road Safety Congress in Cardiff. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents’ website to help parents select and fit child car seats correctly - www.childcarseats.org.uk - has won a top road safety award. Dr Brian Gibbons, Welsh Assembly Deputy Minister for Economic Development and Transport, presented RoSPA with the Prince Michael International Road Safety Award at the Society’s national road safety congress in Cardiff today (Monday, March 1). 01/03/04 : TV STAR’S IDEA TO HELP BATTLE AGAINST FLEET CRASHES

Television personality and businessman Noel Edmonds is to use his experience in the video conferencing market to spearhead the battle to reduce the number of accidents involving company car and van drivers. Noel has launched a new video conferencing venture, face2face, a nationwide network of over 300 Video Meeting Rooms. He will use the latest technology to address RoSPA’s seminar on managing occupational road risk at the Watford Hilton, Hertfordshire, on April 21, from his Devon home. Full Story»


26/02/04 : SEEKING WAYS TO SAVE VULNERABLE ROAD USERS

Ways of protecting the UK’s most vulnerable road users will be tackled at a national conference organised by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents next week. Experts will be discussing how to reduce the risk to children – whether travelling on foot, bicycle or in cars - pedestrians, pedal cyclists, motorcyclists and horse riders. These groups make up about a quarter of road casualties, but account for almost half of the fatalities. Full Story»
