RoSPA Press Office : Press ReleaseJanuary 19, 2005 The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents is staging two seminars in February as part of its campaign to cut accidents involving company car and van drivers. The Managing Occupational Road Risk events will be held at the Glasgow Moat House on February 3, and the Thistle London Heathrow on February 9. Both are sponsored by Toyota. Charles Davis, RoSPA Head of Driver and Fleet Solutions, said: “All organisations, no matter how large or small, are now expected to have a systematic approach to managing occupational road risk in place. “At RoSPA, we were the first to recognise that work-related road accidents result in 800 to 1,000 deaths on Britain’s road each year, and we are determined to do all we can to bring that figure down. “We know there is a particular problem with company car and van drivers, as those who drive high annual mileages for work are up to 50 per cent more likely to crash than private motorists. “Driving is the most dangerous work activity that most people undertake and we are pleased that more and more employers are recognising this. Our two seminars will give them the information they need to tackle this issue and build on work they are doing already.” Topics include: impact on the bottom line, developing a risk management approach, driver and line manager development, monitoring and the problems posed by drink and drugs.
