RoSPA SAFETY AWARDS GO TO MORE THAN 1,400 ORGANISATIONS
More than 1,400 businesses and organisations will be honoured at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents Occupational Health and Safety Awards next week.
Many have competed for sector awards and specialist trophies, but there are also achievement awards at merit, bronze, silver, gold, gold medal, president’s and order of distinction levels.
Most of the winners are UK-based, but there are also entrants from around the world.
They all work towards high levels of performance, demonstrating well developed occupational health and safety management systems and culture, outstanding control of risk and very low levels of error, harm and loss.
The awards, sponsored by NEBOSH, will be presented over three days (May 22-24) of gala dinners and ceremonies at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel, at the NEC, attended by nearly 3,000 people.
The presentations will be made by Baroness Gibson of Market Rasen, President of RoSPA, Lord Jordan of Bournville, Deputy President, Lord Brougham and Vaux, Vice-President, and Tom Mullarkey, RoSPA Chief Executive.
Tom Mullarkey said: “These awards are unique because they don’t celebrate what has happened, but reward what has not happened. Although we do not know who they are, there are many people alive and uninjured because of the unceasing work of organisations to ensure workplace risks are properly assessed and controlled.
“In contrast to news about disasters, successful prevention is hardly ever in the headlines. That is why for more than 50 years, RoSPA has remained committed to recognising and celebrating the work of organisations large and small which go the extra mile to make the protection of workers and the public a key business issue."
The event takes place alongside Safety and Health Expo at the NEC. During the week, RoSPA is also staging a conference on Directors’ Duties; The Big Network, where health and safety professionals and others can meet experts on a wide range of subjects; a free Growing Business Clinic, where small and medium-sized companies can have their health and safety questions answered; and a Construction Health and Safety Conference.
A list of winners and pictures will be available on request after the presentations.
