‘Revitalising Health and Safety at Work'

An Evaluation of the Government’s/HSC’s Response to Consultation

Conclusion
Conclusion The above analysis reviews only those commitments in 'revitalising' which relate to key objectives and recommendations in RoSPA's September 1999 submission -although arguably these encompass more that 75 per cent of the overall package. There are a number of major gaps such as enhancing the effect of Section 3 of the HSW Act in relation to protection of members of the public and developing closer links with the environmental agenda. Clearly there are many other detailed issues addressed in the Action Points on which RoSPA has not commented or has yet to take a view. Also there is much on-going HSC/E work which is not referred to here but which has either been the subject of public discussion and/or consultation exercises or has been addressed in part at least by new HSC/E guidance and or legislative initiatives. The Committee will want to take time to digest the Government's/HSC's 'revitalising' commitments and to consider the implications of what is proposed, including implications for RoSPA's future policy and influencing work in OS&H.
